Calculate Tier Points

About the New BA Executive Club Tier Points System

  • From April 2025, you earn 1 Tier Point for every £1 of eligible spend
  • Eligible spend includes base fare, carrier charges, seat selection, and extra baggage fees
  • Government taxes and fees are excluded
  • New tier thresholds: Bronze (3,500 TP), Silver (7,500 TP), Gold (20,000 TP)

Understanding the April 2025 Tier Points System

The Revolutionary Change

British Airways transformed their tier points system on 1st April 2025, moving from a distance-based model to a spend-based approach. This represents the most significant change to the Executive Club loyalty programme in years, rewarding members based on the actual amount spent rather than miles flown. Every pound you spend on qualifying purchases now directly translates into tier points.

What Counts as Eligible Spend

  • Base fare for your flight ticket
  • Carrier-imposed charges added by the airline
  • Pre-selected seat reservation fees
  • Additional baggage allowance fees
  • Cabin upgrade charges (online or at airport)

What Doesn't Earn Tier Points

  • Airport passenger service charges
  • Government-imposed taxes and duties
  • Security and immigration fees
  • Non-airline related charges
  • Reward Flight base bookings (add-ons still count)

💱 Currency Conversions

If you purchase your ticket in a currency other than British pounds, don't worry. British Airways automatically converts your spend to GBP using the IATA 5-day exchange rate that was in effect on your booking date. This converted amount is then used to calculate your tier points, ensuring fair and consistent earning regardless of your payment currency.

Promotional Bonus Tier Points Offer

Limited Time Bonus Offer

British Airways is offering bonus tier points on every eligible flight when you register for their promotional offer. Book flights by the end of 2025 for travel up to the end of 2026 to take advantage of this generous bonus programme.

Important: Bonus tier points appear in your account statement after you've completed your flight, not in your booking quote. Make sure you're registered for the offer before booking to qualify.

Earning on Upgrades, Seats, and Baggage

The beauty of the new tier points system is that almost every pound you spend with British Airways counts toward your elite status. This includes all those little extras that make your journey more comfortable.

Cabin Upgrades

When you upgrade your cabin class, either during online booking or at the airport check-in desk, you'll earn 1 tier point for every £1 spent on that upgrade. This applies to upgrades to any cabin class.

Seat Selection

Pre-booking your preferred seat on the aircraft isn't just about comfort. Every pound you spend on seat selection fees earns you tier points at the standard 1:1 ratio, helping you progress toward your next tier.

Extra Baggage

Need to bring more luggage? When you pre-pay for additional baggage allowance, those fees contribute to your tier point balance. It's another way your travel spending works harder for you.

Maximising Your Tier Point Earnings

1

Book add-ons in advance: Pre-purchasing seats and baggage not only saves you money compared to airport prices, but also ensures these purchases count toward your tier points.

2

Consider upgrades strategically: If you're close to reaching the next tier, an upgrade on your next flight could push you over the threshold, unlocking valuable benefits.

3

Track all your spending: Remember that every eligible pound contributes, so keep track of all add-ons when calculating your progress toward the next tier.

Special Circumstances and Exceptions

Avios Part Payment and Discounts

If you use Avios to partially pay for your flight, you're in luck. You'll still earn tier points based on the full eligible spend for your booking before any Avios discount is applied. This means your tier point earning isn't reduced when you use your loyalty points.

Example: If your flight costs £500 in eligible spend and you pay £200 in cash plus Avios for the rest, you'll still earn tier points on the full £500.

Voucher codes: If you use a discount or voucher code, you'll earn tier points based on the total eligible spend after the discount is applied.

Reward Flights and Tier Points

Reward Flights booked entirely with Avios don't earn tier points on the base booking. However, you can still earn tier points on any eligible add-ons you purchase for that Reward Flight.

  • Preferred seat selections on Reward Flights earn tier points
  • Extra baggage fees on Reward Flights earn tier points
  • Promotional upgrades on Reward Flights earn tier points

Partner Airlines and Exceptions

For most British Airways-marketed flights, you'll earn based on the new spend-based system. However, there are some exceptions:

  • Some partner airline flights earn tier points based on cabin class, booking class, and distance flown
  • Negotiated fares through UK travel management companies earn based on equivalent BA.com fares or higher
  • Bookings through travel agents where fare isn't disclosed earn based on cabin, booking class, and distance

Pre-April 2025 Bookings

If you booked flights before 13:00 GMT on 30th December 2024 for travel from 1st April 2025 onwards (on BA, American Airlines, or Iberia marketed flights), your tier points will be calculated using a conversion from the old distance-based system. This ensures you'll earn proportionally the same number of tier points, or more, as you were quoted when you made your booking.

Example Conversions:

London to New York (Economy O class):
Old system: 20 TP each way → New system: 267 TP each way

London to Madrid (Club Europe I class):
Old system: 40 TP each way → New system: 534 TP each way

Booking Changes and Recalculations

If you make changes to your booking and your ticket price changes as a result, your tier points will be recalculated based on the new total eligible spend. This applies whether the price increases or decreases. The tier points you ultimately earn will reflect the final ticket price you paid after all modifications.

Tracking and Verifying Your Tier Points

Keeping track of your tier points is essential for planning your journey to elite status. Here's everything you need to know about monitoring your progress and ensuring all your points are properly credited.

Before You Fly

Once you've completed your booking, navigate to Manage My Booking on the British Airways website. Here you'll find an estimate of the tier points you'll earn from your flight.

Note: Pre-flight estimates don't include promotional bonus tier points. These will appear in your account after you've completed your journey.

After You Fly

Your complete tier points total, including all bonus points, will appear on your account statement once they've been credited. This provides a comprehensive record of all your earnings.

Tip: Regularly check your account statement to monitor your progress toward the next tier and ensure all flights are properly credited.

Crediting Timelines: When to Expect Your Points

1

British Airways Flights

Tier points appear in your account within 3 days after completing your flight or using an eligible add-on such as seat selection or extra baggage.

2

Partner Airlines

Flights with oneworld alliance partners and other partner airlines may take up to 7 days to credit to your account. This slightly longer processing time accounts for data transfer between airlines.

3

British Airways Holidays Packages

Tier points from holiday packages take 14 days after trip completion to credit. Points are divided equally amongst all passengers on the booking.

Essential Requirements for Automatic Crediting

Add your membership number: You must include your Executive Club membership number on every flight and holiday booking. Without it, tier points cannot be automatically awarded.

Match your passport details: The name and date of birth on your Executive Club account must exactly match your passport information. This verification step is crucial for processing your tier points automatically.

Complete your journey: Tier points are only credited after you've actually taken the flight or used the eligible add-on. Bookings alone don't trigger point awards.

Claiming Missing Tier Points

If your tier points haven't appeared within the expected timeframe, don't worry. British Airways provides a straightforward process for claiming missing points:

  1. 1.Wait for the crediting period: Ensure the appropriate timeframe has passed (3 days for BA flights, 7 days for partners, 14 days for holidays).
  2. 2.Verify your account details: Double-check that your membership number was correctly added to the booking and your account information matches your passport.
  3. 3.Submit a claim: Use the missing Avios and tier points form on the British Airways website. You'll need your booking reference and flight details.
  4. 4.Keep your documentation: Have your boarding passes and booking confirmation readily available in case they're needed to process your claim.

Processing time: Missing tier point claims are typically processed within a few weeks. The British Airways team will investigate and credit any missing points to your account once verified.
