What is an Avios point worth?
We use 1p per point as a ballpark figure. It is the value many experts use, but the real world is more complicated.
The value of an Avios point to you depends on numerous factors:
- Where you fly (long-haul vs short-haul)
- What cabin you fly in (Business Class typically offers better value than Economy)
- Whether you use a British Airways American Express 2-4-1 Companion Voucher
- What cash price you would have paid if Avios weren't available
You need to be sure you are getting substantially more for an Avios than your cost price to make it worthwhile. This is especially true because you are substituting something very liquid – cash – for something that is not very liquid at all.
