Avios Household Accounts explained
Understand who can join, what is shared and how to avoid surprises when several people use one pooled Avios balance.
What a Household Account does
A Household Account combines the Avios of up to seven British Airways Club members who live at the same address: one head of household and up to six additional members. Everyone still collects Avios individually, but the balances are available together when an eligible member makes a redemption.
Who can join
The head of household must already be a British Airways Club member and manages additions or removals. Children can join, which lets them collect Avios from eligible flights even though they cannot normally open a standalone adult account.
British Airways requires household members to live at the same address. People outside the household can instead be added to a Family and Friends list for eligible bookings; that does not pool their Avios.
How Avios are taken for a booking
When an eligible Household Account member spends Avios, British Airways normally takes them proportionally from members' individual balances. The account does not let you choose one person's balance first. Check the live booking summary if the distribution matters to your group.
Tier points and status remain individual
Only Avios are pooled. Tier points, Bronze/Silver/Gold status and progress toward a tier remain with the traveller who earned them. Use the BA tier points calculator separately for each person.
Before you create the account
- Agree who will act as head of household and manage changes.
- Confirm every member's name, address and Club details are accurate.
- Understand how pooled redemptions will be agreed within the household.
- Keep each member's Avios active at least once every three years.
- Read the current British Airways rules before adding or removing members.
