Avios upgrade calculator
Estimate the reward-price difference for an eligible one-way BA upgrade from London, then confirm the ticket and seat in Manage My Booking.
Reward cabin prices used: 46,750 → 88,000 Avios.
Planning estimate only. Your cash ticket must be eligible and reward availability must exist in the next cabin. Extra taxes, fees and carrier charges may apply.
The calculation and its limits
The official formula is the Avios price of the next cabin minus the Avios price of your booked cabin. Peak or off-peak pricing matters. This tool applies that formula to the site's London route dataset.
The result is not confirmation that your ticket can be upgraded. A suitable reward seat must be available in the next cabin, your fare class must be eligible and additional cash charges can apply.
Before you upgrade
- Open Manage My Booking to confirm that BA offers the upgrade on your ticket.
- Compare the extra Avios and cash with buying the higher cabin outright.
- Check whether the upgrade affects baggage, lounge access and change terms as expected.
- Remember that earnings are based on the commercial ticket purchased, not the upgraded cabin.
Frequently asked questions
British Airways states that the Avios needed is the reward price of the cabin you want minus the reward price of the cabin booked, using the relevant peak or off-peak date.
No. Fare restrictions apply, and the lowest economy fare classes Q, O and G cannot currently be upgraded with Avios. Check your booking in Manage My Booking.
An Avios upgrade is normally to the next cabin fitted on the route. On long-haul aircraft with premium economy, that means economy to premium economy, then premium economy to business.
