The two conversion rates are different
Converting 400 Nectar points currently produces 250 Avios. The reverse direction uses a different rate: 400 Avios produces 400 Nectar points. Both directions start at 400 points and use 400-point increments.
Because the rates are not mirror images, moving points to Avios and then back to Nectar can reduce the original Nectar balance. Choose the intended use before converting.
When Nectar or Avios may be better
Nectar gives a straightforward route to eligible everyday rewards, while Avios can be more valuable on a well-chosen flight redemption. A reward flight also includes cash charges and depends on availability, so compare the complete cost rather than the points alone.

Linking accounts and timing
The Nectar account and British Airways Club account must be linked. British Airways currently says Nectar-to-Avios manual conversions are instant, while Avios-to-Nectar can take up to 12 days. Automatic conversions are processed weekly. Check the official screen before relying on a deadline.
